About the Project
Improve 64 will reduce congestion and improve safety and mobility along I-64 in Floyd County. It includes added travel lanes and interchange reconfigurations along with the replacement and rehabilitation of bridges and pavement.
The contract was awarded to William Charles Construction in November 2025. Pre-construction activities are expected to begin in Spring 2026, and project construction will follow in early 2026. Construction is anticipated to be substantially complete by late 2029.
Project Purpose
The purpose of the project is to reduce congestion on I-64 from the State Road 62/64 interchange to the Spring Street interchange in New Albany.

Insufficient freeway capacity around the I-64 and I-265 interchange results in:
-
Congestion during peak hours
-
Slow travel speeds
-
Aged pavement conditions
