FLOYD COUNTY, Ind. – February 18, 2026 – Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) contractors will begin pre-construction activities, including vegetation management, for the Improve 64 project on or after Monday, February 23, in select areas within the project corridor.

While pre-construction activities are in progress, drivers can anticipate intermittent overnight shoulder and single-lane restrictions between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. on:

  • Southbound I-265 between I-64 and the State Street interchange

  • I-64 in both directions between I-265 and U.S. 150

Project construction is anticipated to begin this summer and is expected to be substantially completed by the end of 2029. More information on the construction schedule will be shared when available.

Improve 64 is part of INDOT’s strategy to reduce congestion and improve safety and mobility along I-64 in Floyd County, enhancing the overall travel experience along the corridor. The project includes added travel lanes and interchange improvements to enhance the corridor’s operational efficiency. Bridge and culvert replacement and rehabilitation, as well as noise barrier, new guardrail, and concrete barrier wall installation on portions of I-64, I-265 and U.S. 150 are also part of the project.
